I am going to get pilloried for this, but I just could not help myself, I would not describe it as a new sound (I took the time to listen to the songs on the link posted). I could point to many artists both signed and unsigned with a sound which is indistinguishable (how many use that Cher vocal effect?). It is very hard now for any artist to produce something which is truly new. I just heard the latest Keane single, it sounds just like they have been listening to James and gone out and wrote a song.
I won't be voting purely because I don't like the music and I don't do something to be nice on here.
But a big credit to you GemStar for supporting your friend (all musicians need that) - I should know I have many friends who work in the music industry. If you like the music, enjoy it because music is one of the best aspects of life.
