IMO, the two events are not mutually exclusive.

I can only see two threads about the trial, and this thread which is about chosen methods of execution.
There are lots of things I feel strongly about, that I wouldn't necessarily start threads on, it doesn't mean I have no interest or empathy for the subject.
Actually, I don't often start threads.
Well speaking for myself being interested in court and law, and how quickly i found this case draws you in, due to many aspects of it, it is fine to have an interest in any subject however real and horrific. As Yogi says we can feel extreme helplessness and horror at worse real life happenings in the world today, it doesn't mean we feel any less for one and more for the other.
( But i do agree about the Knickers in a twist Joe) 
You should start some threads Yogi, it doesn't matter if its 4 of one and half a dozen of the other.
