I have to change broadband suppliers as my son who had the previous account has had to cancel. We were originally with Tiscali who were great but they sold to Talk Talk who have been shite (which is why I didn't want to take over that account)

Any suggestions as to who is best for price and performance? We don't have Sky or Virgin cable type tv stuff so don't need one of those packages. I don't mind putting the phone in with it but son who lives at home is forever downloading films and music so we need one that allows loads of that>

Help please - I'm not the most techy person and it's so confusing

Hi Veggie, i have Sky, TV. phone and broadband, but i dont think you have to take the full package. You need the phoneline, of course to get broadband. I am sure there is a price comparison website, cant remember the name offhand. Have a look around Google, it is very confusing and i wish you luck ! Look at BT offers, i saw an advert the other night, they are doing some deals , and if its a straight transfer over, i dont think they take a fee for joining them, but dont quote me on that

I'm with ADSL24, a British based ISP.  It was recommended on the old C4 forum years ago and I've been with them ever since.  I believe there is no fee for cancellation, well there certainly wasn't when I joined.  You can even get your MAC code straight away online if you want to leave.  They have a range of packages.  I don't say they are the cheapest but I have always found them reliable.  If you have a query about anything you raise a ticket with them (ie leave a question) and they get right back to you.  Worth checking out to see if it would suit your requirements.

Thanks PC, I'm bookmarking all the suggestions so son can have a look at them tonight. It's the hidden stuff as well to consider like the sly charges they put on if you move home etc,

Avalon - Talk Talk is so bad it's a joke. Son was with Tiscali for about 3 years and it was excellent performance. Since TT took over it is rubbish, disconnects all the time, limited connectivity etc etc.

I hate TT with a vengeance now

Avalon, we've had a problem with this as, when my son cancelled the account last week, they didn't give him the code. We've signed with Orange now but they called tonight and said we need the code (other son who has set up the Orange a/c neglected to tell me he had to sort it )

Anyway I called Talk Talk and surprise surprise they have no one who can give it to me until tomorrow. But searching online they apparently are legally obliged to give you the code within 5 days - just quote that at them and see if it helps.

The operative I spoke to tonight told me that their policy is give the code immediately when it is asked for. I will try that tomorrow and heaven help them if they muck me about.

Good luck with getting yours
