That is dreadful, I can't believe that he could be treated like this.  I despair of this 'one size fits all' mentality.

I'm a leftie, but fairly ambidextrous when I need to be.

I use my computer mouse right-handed (leaving the left one free), I knit right-handed and I smoke with either hand.

I have a left-handed bread knife, however. Try using a normal one with the blade slanted for righties in you left hand, and you'll see the problem.

The only hassle I ever got for it was from teachers. The one in nursery class ridiculed me in front of the whole class because I had trouble with shoelaces, and nicknamed me "helpless and hopeless".

Later on, a PE teacher made an drama out of me being the only one in class who needed a left-handed hockey stick.

And in music class, the teacher moaned that I had to lean over to do my work, because we had seats with exercise book rest attached to the arm - on the right hand side, of course.

My twin is left handed (I'm right) and I don't think he finds it much of a problem now, but when we were younger he did.  Stuff like using implements like scissors and stuff was always a problem, I guess it gets easier as you get older.

I was right handed up to the point when I had the brain tumour op. I have been efectively left handed since. I have no trouble working in a right-handed world, as I still do many things in a right-handed way. I therefore think I'd probably be ambidextrous if the op hadn't spoiled it all.

It helps that a lot of implements these days are made in two versions or for use in either hand.

I know that a lot of left handers were made to write with the same slope as a right-hander. I was fortunate that by the time I had to switch to writing with my left hand we were beyond the 'learning to write' stage. My writing is fairly upright.

I can write with my right hand, with a bit of effort, it looks fairly much like that of a 5 year old who is just learning to write.

when my other half was at school the teacher used to hit his hand with a ruler until he wrote with his right hand,  giving my granddaughter a rusk to hold (she's just started holding food) she would only hold it in her left hand to eat !

There have been a lot of leftie US presidents. Reagan, George Bush Snr (not Dubya!) and Clinton were all lefties. and even if Obama had lost, there would still have been a leftie Prez - McCain's one too.
