and need a doctors appointment
Replies sorted oldest to newest
I've just had WW3 with my Nans docs-FUMING!
Gotta go vote now Zazz.... but will check back and hopefully catch you a bit later
What happened?
Urgh... My Nan was refused an appointment round her docs I went mental.
She now has an appointment (but it shouldn't take someone to phone up on the behalf of the old people ) the fella in charge was telling me the NHS HAVE to offer you an appointment within 48hrs....then when I said, so she should have an appointment for monday (which was what she wanted in the first place) he said, well no, you have to phone up monday morning and you MIGHT get an appointment I went on to argue "so thats not actually giving her an appointment" he argued it was, even though he had previously said she MAY NOT get an appointment *smacks head against wall*
I am not surprised you are annoyed Zazz... you're poor gran Our docs have a similar system... it's a total pain!! Yes, you can get an appointment if it is an emergency, but trying to make an appointment for a couple of days time is a nightmare
ours won't prebook appointments you ring up on the day and hope to God there's one available you're then told you can go on the emergency list but if it turns out to not be an emergency, you can be struck off - imagine telling old people that
Shocking! A lady of 90 should be given priority! We have a system here, much the same...phone at 8am to get an appointment, redial constantly as its always an "engaged" tone then 20 minutes later, after redialing about 100 times, and nerves frazzled , be told no appointments left But priority is given to patients with breathing difficulties, which should be me, as i am usually hyperventilating by then !
Im gonna be complaining to the NHS about the practice manager at her surgery after he said " your Nan either needs and appointment or not, and any day should do!" cheeky "ÂĢ$%^& I'm a lil more chilled about it now, but it does make me angry, old people should be better looked after by the health services

Yes do that!!! Give a copy too, to the main GP of the practice
This thread makes me feel lucky. I book my appointments online and never have any problems . Just gone to see what is availible so I can post it and I have lots of choices of times for everyday except wednesday. Can even order my repeat perscriptions on web.
Zazz...I hate to bring this up but my grandfather died last December aged 96. He was in a nursing home by then and he'd seen a doc a few times in his last few months as by then we could see his systems were slowly shutting down.
Anyway, a GP from his surgery came out 2 or 3 times in his last week and hours before he died quietly in his sleep. Now I thought all would be well - after all he'd been seen by a doc just a few hours before. BUT apparently he'd not been seen by the GP he was actually registered with - one of the practice partners - that bod had always palmed off the home visits onto a locum or junior GP.
As he'd not been seen by HIS GP we had to have a post mortem. He was 96 ffs...

We can book online etc. too Neil, but the bookable appointments always seem a long time in advance...
normally a few days sometimes a week really depends how busy they are. But it is so much better than going in and the receptionist asking what the problem is, My response that is between me and the doctor. Them well I need that so I can book the appointment. Me no you don't it is none of your business. Just book it.
Much better booking online saves contact with nosy receptionists

LOL... I agree on that one
I thought they never take chances with people of this age.
This is unbelievable.

Naa the surgery has half a dozen doctors. I can never get a appointment with my favorite one unless it is done about a month in advance but the rest are pretty good except one there is one I won't see as I don't like him. .
Come to my surgery and I can book you in up to 4 weeks in advance.
Just don't try and book a same day emergency appointment cos you need a med3 to get a DSS payout and you forgot to do it ealier.
Medical emergencies only!
my nans 88 its a nightmare to get her appointments too. she had a heart scan 4 weeks ago at hospital and doctors have only today phoned her (after mum kept phoning for results) to say hes going to refer her back to hospital for surgery, i dont think my poor nan at 88 could cope with surgery.
