Still waiting ~Thatcher's demise, then the champagne corks will pop..
Tony Blair who took us to war is made Peace Envoy
Gordon Brown who was at the helm when we suffered the worst recession in recent history is given a job on the World Economic Forum
Say no more!
Still waiting ~Thatcher's demise, then the champagne corks will pop..

You might be in for a long list here.
How about schoolkids milk and the Belgrano? To begin.

The trouble is, with politicians, they hardly ever bother to put right previous wrongs. But if she hadn't committed so many wrongs, we wouldn't still be waiting for them to be put right.
I come from an area that was "closed down" by her policies. It's still never recovered.
I wasn't going to bother with the "...that others have put right" bit. I was expecting a simple list of her misdemeanours.
Not that I'll be clinking any fizz upon her demise. I just think it's pretty sad that anyone could grow up into such heartless, nasty woman. And such an odd odd person at that. And then get their hands on the reins of power.

Decimation of heavy industry and associated smaller businesses and jobs.. breakdown of community .. the " I'm alright Jack" mentality and culture.. taxation methods that hit the poorest hardest .. most of it not reversable. ( not that subsequent administrations tried too hard to reverse it .. )

Trouble is jobs are going to be lost to machines.........progress, how do we stop it?

Sounds a bit "Tomorrow's World" to me. They predicted our jobs would all be done by machines... the reality is, we now work the longest hours in Europe.
But coal isn't dug by machine alone, so that's why we import all ours from Russia and Eastern Europe now, while our own viable mines lie mothballed.

Well that's the problem. They want to have a weightless economy where everything is done digitally. Their argument is it's a sustainable method to assist in achieving their carbon emission targets and will benefit climate change and all that gubbins. The reality is people are losing their jobs and livelihoods. *raised brows*
The Thatcher years created the yuppy era ..Im alright jack attitude ..a bad trait that seems to run through the tory governments..this one is proving they are no different and are thatcherites too..*sigh*
my champagne is on ice for thatcher's demise - you can also add the selling of council homes to her long list of failings
as for clegg and the present tories i cannot comment as i too would be banned for life!

And, to be fair, recent New Labour governments. Labour put a smiley face on Thatcherism and removed some of its injustices, but Thatcher wasn't wrong when she said her 'greatest achievement' was Tony Blair.
Along with the Murdoch press, Thatcher killed off the notion that this country could and should ever have a left of centre redistributive government.
Even under Labour the trend was less progressive taxes, less regulation for the banks and more encroachment of the private sector middleman to leach off public funds.
The rich got richer under Labour and left the poor behind - just as they did under Thatcher. The government spent millions on PFI contracts that in many cases stitched the country up, rather than raise income taxes to pay for the essentials of state infrastructure like the NHS.
The property and credit booms in lieu of real growth were a disaster waiting to happen. Get rich quick property speculation, particularly buy to let and self cert, were partially responsible for the banking crisis and the bailouts.
Labour should have reversed that trend, they didn't.
Don't get me wrong, this lot are awful, and I'd have Labour back in a heartbeat, but they really missed so many opportunities to improve this country.
Rant over!

Totally agree. She shifted the whole political spectrum to the right - Labour basically took up the gap left by the " paternal conservatism" there was prior to Thatcher . Even then though , when in power they had forays into territory that even she didn't touch - the demise of free higher education was an example there. Had hoped Milliband might try to redress the balance, but that's not looking likely

Indeed, I'm running out of patience with Miliband. Before his election, he seemed like the ideal leader to reverse the Blairite tendencies. Now he seems to have settled into a nondescript Blairite middle where he doesn't seem to take any risks for the fear of offending the Daily Mail. I don't know who 'the squeezed middle' are supposed to be, it's so intentionally vague that it can apply to almost anyone.
