Marcus Bentley to resume his role
He is almost more famous than the contestants with his instantly recognizable Geordie tones…
Now the man who was the voice of Big Brother has revealed he plans to return to the reality TV show now it’s back on Channel 5.
Voice-over star Marcus Bentley gained cult status when he joined the series 11 years ago. Fans tried to mimic his deadpan tones as he said things like: “Day 28. 9am. All the housemates are asleep” or “The chickens are loose in the garden.”
Marcus, 43, was said to be devastated when Channel 4 decided to axe the show last year because he believed it could run and run.
Now Channel 5 has secured the deal to bring the Endemol show back this summer, he said he would love to make a comeback himself.
He tweeted to fans: “Nothing would put me off doing the show. All you need are great housemates and amazing tasks.”
Marcus also admitted that he would be “heartbroken” if he wasn’t asked to be the voice of the new Big Brother.
He added: “The thought of somebody else doing it would break my heart. I’m such a fan of the show. I’d do it hell or high water.”
He has joked that if he doesn’t get the job, he could still have a voice in the house by appearing on Celebrity Big Brother.
He said: “I’ve turned down quite a few things in my time, which I’m now thinking if I got asked again, I might do.
“As you get a bit older you think ‘Why not, who cares?’”
Channel 5 kicks off a Big Brother bonanza this August. Bookmakers say the celebrity version is set to star glamour models, former politicians and Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi’s “bunga bunga” party
