I'll retune my Freeview. Ioften listen to digital radio on my telly.

I listen to BBC7 the most, so I hope they're not mucking about with it too much.

Is there any change in format in Radio 4 Extra, or is it just Radio 7 rebranded?

I'm not clear about it yet - other than that they are using the moment to introduce a few new regular programmes.

They've removed the kids programmes and put in stuff like Ambridge Extra and Desert Island Discs Revisited. I'll be happy if they up the drama and scifi content.

I really like(d) Radio 7.... I hope they don't get rid of the late night/early morning detective series

They have moved the crime progs Instead of being around 1-2a.m. they are now on at bloomin 6 o'clock in the morning

I agree Brisket I used to love listening to progs like Morse, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde  etc. in bed....

So far the "new" online player doesn't work for 4 Extra. The sound feed is fluctuating like it's sitting on top of a washing machine on fast spin - unlistenable!

And the feed for Radio 4 keeps cutting out every minute or two. This is an appalling change for the BBC. Very poorly debugged by the look (or rather sound) of it, and the programming changes don't make any sense.

I haven't actually listened to it on line PeterCat, so can't comment on that, but agree that the programming changes are, at least as far as my listening goes, are rubbish Radio 7 was unique, what we seem to be getting now is a mish mash of 7 & 4....

They've fixed the player now, I think. Not a good way to start, though.

Oh I don't mind digital radio. It's nice to have reception without interference, tbh. It's when they change the programme schedule and make it worse that gets on my wick.

I have just listened to the first episode of "Ambridge Extra!

I did not like it!

It seems to be a bad error of judgment to me.

I thought it was poorly scripted, rather hammily acted and did not enhance or enlighten the main Archers programme. In fact I think it rather hinders the main programme.

Only 1 15 minute episode may not be quite enough to make a fair judgment I suppose, but I shall feel little or no regret if I never listen again.

Also, in their eagerness to establish a new series, they already seem to have taken liberties and embellished - even distorted - characters we already know.

Not a success in my opinion.

Trouble is PC that some areas will be very troublesome.  I live in a very hilly area and quite close to the Welsh transmitters which causes interference with the digital TV signals.  I think digital radio for lots of people round here is very problematic and if it goes ahead I think there is a real possibility that I will be left with no radio at all.  I know they will boost the signal but when they did that with the TV signal the Welsh transmitters turned theirs up even more and loads of my friends have problems.  Even if I get some radio how much is it going to cost with all my radios suddenly losing reception?

 I bet I won't like it either then Brisket. I must admit I couldn't really see the point of it in the first place... If they want to *expand* the characters,  why not simply add an extra 5 minutes on to the original programme...

Squiggle  I only have one actual DAB radio, but I can listen to it on my TV (Sky), and Iphone too.  I have to admit that I  like digital, but I can see that the switch off/over is going to cause problems for a lot of people like you, in areas of poor reception. And of course, we are all going to lose reception from our car radios......which will no doubt cost a fortune to deal with....

  I know what you mean.... The only reason I have a my DAB radio is that I was given it as a 60th birthday present, otherwise, like you, I would be making like an ostrich right now

My experience of portable DAB radios is that they seem to use up batteries very quickly compared to analogue radios, and unless that can be sorted out, I don't think switching off analogue is reasonable.

My DAB is a mains one El Loro...but I agree, switching off analogue totally seems very drastic to me...

My experience of DAB is through my Mum. She has one upstairs and one down - both mains radios - and she's really pleased with them. I must admit, I hadn't heard of the interference problems that squiggle's experienced. Surely they could sort that out, fgs?

I like listening onlinebecause I have my wireless headphones plugged into my puter, which means I can wander all around the flat and listen with perfect reception. Or at least I could till they started messing about with the iPlayer
