I went to a really lovely wedding about 6 years ago in lainstone house, a beautiful 17th century house. They really pushed the boat out and in the evening they did that, they scrapped the buffet and the staff walked round with sausage sandwiches, bacon sandwiches and newspaper cones of chips. It was really really good, and hit the spot. After a day of drinking thats really what you want!

I sound a right grumpy mare this morning don't I - I blame your thread - Never pays to remind oneself of their gain in years & loss in functions

But I will say - it is a tad stingy still !

Lol dont worry slim, hope we can cheer you up a bit I've had mixed feedback from talking to people too, some think it's a great idea after a good drink, others think it's stingy lol One fella told me he binned off a posh hotel for his own reception cos they wanted to do bacon sardines at ÂĢ10 PER HEAD for the evening do! For ÂĢ10 I'd want half a pig in there!

I think its a fab idea...

and I don't think its stingy...  maybe it just that its catering more for the guests that have been there for the whole day, the ceremony & the wedding breakfast.   So for the evening guests it may seem a bit odd.

I only got  married 7 years ago..  so the memory of the cost of feeding all those people, during the day & in the evening is still quite vivid..    and seeing at least half of the reception buffet sitting there uneaten was a bit gutting.

Not as bad as the daytime "no show" guests though...   the ones who we had paid the "ÂĢ35 a head" for, who rsvp'd yes, but on the day didn't show.    we had about 8 no shows (out of a 80)..  I still don't speak to 2 of them...  If they could have let us know we could have given their places to other people (we had to work to a max of 80 people in the ceremony room).

Oh god...  just thinking about all the stress!   Never ever again!!    There's alot to be said for buggering off somewhere hot with a few close family & friends!

The more I think about it, eloping seems like a fab option
definitely!!

We were determined to not have any falling outs or stress or the usual wedding palava's you hear about...  but we did.

its always the people you least expect to cause you grief that end up being the ones that do!  (parents & relatives included )

I'd probably throw a strop and tell them all to feck off

I know!!   And from people you'd least expect it of as well.   One of them had a totally valid excuse... she had just started going into labour that morning..   in fact I thought it a bit beyond the call of duty for her husband to still attend

see, put into context it does sound quite fab... got to say though, if me and B ever got married, bacon sarnies wouldn't go down well

oh that sounds good - i like the afternoon tea idea
Yes it was lovely - it was in Cambridge and the whole wedding party was punted to the reception with pink champagne - followed by afternoon tea and more champagne!

i was well tiddled before we even sat down to eat the dinner!

I was gonna ask what do the poor veggies in the party get but you've answered a possible choice with cheese toastie

I'm with Ditty on this, I'd rather people eat and enjoy their fill than leave a half eaten buffet
