They've had a few good tunes (and a couple of good covers) but a) they ended up sounding too samey (reggae can have alternative styles) and b) I don't know how they ever made any money cos there's so bloody many of them in that band.

Saying that I saw Ali Campbell on the BBC4 reggae special a few weeks back and he seems to be quite well respected in the industry.

As pirate111 and Cold Sweat say, the first two albums, "Signing off" and "Present Arms" are as good as anything done by any critically acclaimed reggae artists, after that it went progressively down hill.  Once UB40 realised they could make more big money from lightweight reggaefied cover versions they were never really the same.  The rot set in with "Labour of Love" but that's a work of genius compared to some of the depths they've sunk to since.

Even as far back as the early 90s UB40 were considered music for those lads who were still wearing white socks to night clubs whilst sporting taches and perms.

You know it is like we are going full circle in this country at the moment. Last time it was the coal miners who got it - this time it is the public sector workers. Of course the poor, sick and needy go without saying - torys = cuts...
The only light at the end of the tunnel is that this time they will not be voted back because people do have long memories...

I am not very political like some of my esteemed colleagues on here so I can only go on what I see on the TV and read. Me and most of the voting public. And I have to say that during the leaders debates when the general election was on, Gordon Brown came across as the sort of person that could lead us forward.

I do not feel that way about Ed Miliband - don't know why, but he just seems weak.
I am prepared to be convinced otherwise though

Sorry to hijack the thread Pirate but Xochi posting that song and then the comments after, made me realise just how dire things are getting

His nibbs has just bought the best of vol 1 and is banging on and on and on and on about how good it is (admitted there is some crap on it) and how he'd forgotten all about them. He's got copies of it everywhere now, laptop, usb (so he can play it upstairs while gaming and in the car) and a spare hard copy, which I have yet to find out why and where he's gonna play it. *sigh*
