Poor little fellow.  tell him to keep his mouth shut tight, then give him a quick, hard hug. that did the trick for my son when he was bunged  up.

Depends on their age I suppose.Maybe say shut your mouth tight and try and speak/sing through your nose..etc..shrugs..

I couldn't do it when I was little, my mum tried to teach me but it is such a hard thing to relate....I can actually remember her exasperation right now, lol.

Tell him to take a deep breath, close his mouth tightly, then he'll have to "blow" down his nose.

It's mad isn't it? It seems such an easy thing to do (bit like swimming and riding a bike) once you know you never forget but ...............................it's so hard to explain!

Aww Deman!....how's your little hammy..still hanging in there? Big old boy Rio Rabbit is still off his grub,,that's nearly six weeks now.I'm still getting him  to eat   his greens etc,but he won't touch the Bunny munch or the hay too much.He's losing weight."200 grammes  at his last weigh in ,nearly two weeks ago.The fact that he was overweight anyhow,is probably helping him now.However his big old chin dewlap is shrinking fast.I may take him back to the vet in the next week.

Gray the hamster (or Gracie, as my MiL would have it) is still alive and skittering around. Does a bit less bar climbing than she used to and is starting to lose a little bit of weight and getting a bit scraggy round the neck. But still trucking on and enjoying life - at three years old!

Aww yes, and I remember the feeling when you're only small and feel so ill....hope your little grandson gets better soon.
I couldn't do the thing where you unblock your ears by holding the nose and blowing, either.

Oh good on her! Rio is an "elderly" rabbit at 7  though some can go to 10- 12 years old depending on breed,the larger the rabbit the shorter the life span it seems...sigh.I  think it may be dental related,though the private vet and the vet at the PDSA couldn't see anything obviously wrong  with his teeth.Though  I know with watching how little girl Cleo (tubbs) eats her grub and munches four times faster than he does ,makes me thinks that.She's nearly 4.

I still can't do that and I'm 54!!!! My ears are so bloody sensitive (I've had perforated eardrums at least twice) I simply cannot bring myself to hold my nose and blow. It's too frightening.

It depends on his age.
It`s difficult to teach them to blow their nose when they don`t understand how to.
Mine tended to sniff up instead of blow.   
They eventually learn.

Yep we had the sniffing up but also the fingers up the nose trying to pull it all out - I was trying to show him how to blow but he looked at me as if I was a loony. It took me back thirty years when I tried to teach mine. I have a very good memory but can't remember when my kids 'got it'.

Not entirely. I have two brothers a decade younger than me, so I got treated to all that stuff. Not that either of them had trouble with their noses, particularly. But I've wiped enough backsides for a lifetime.

 I can`t remember either Soozy.  I`m guessing here... about 3?

Maybe 4?  Och, I can`t remember. 

My son is 21 and I don't think he's ever blown his nose.

A friend of ours was recently divorced from his wife after 28 years of marriage. One of the reasons she cited was the way he cleared all his tubes every morning. A good coughing and spluttering followed by a good blow. I have to say over the years on the occasions he's stayed with us I did find it a bit excessive .................the thing is - if they were married for all that time ........................WHY DIDN'T SHE SAY SOMETHING?

A human baby/toddler ,,old buck rabbit thread..Now there's a better horror film than the "Human Centipede"...

Try getting him to make a few HMMM noises with his mouth opened then tell him to shut his mouth tight and make a big hard HMMMM noise again.  Might help, took my wee one a few tries but he's 4 now and can sort his own nose out
