I think it is a day when people try too hard and fail miserably too. Our local BBC coverage of it is absolutely excruciatingly cringeworthy.

I don't find it funny but I always get the impression it's pitched at school kids and their mums. 

As a TV event, it's boring and rather self satisfied in its smugness.

It's all for a good cause. Some bits are funnier than others and TBH I much prefer it to the Pudsey one (can't think what it's called now) - I quite enjoy an insight into what's going on in other parts of the world and I find it quite touching to see projects that have been set up with the money raised and still running successfully - it's often heartbreaking but sometimes heartwarming.

Sadly if you look at how the money ends up etc...Africa etc,the leaders of these countries are always very rich,very fat,when their people are starving etc.

I firmly believe that the money raised isn't paid to the governments of the countries involved. it goes directly to the projects. Yes the leaders are very often fat and corrupt in that monies that should go to the poor and needy gets sidelined. This is just one of the reasons that comic Relief was set up - the money goes directly to the people - there are no politics involved.

Its a comedy themed telethon to raise money for various charities, both in the UK & abroad.   Its run by the BBC.

It used to be every year, but they alternate it now with Sports Relief. 

Red Nose Day is a day to be avoided in the town centre..  you get accosted every 5 paces by over enthusiastic students in fancy dress trying to get you to put money in their buckets!

Oh & on the telly its back to back special comedy sketches with all the (usually) british comedians & celebs that have got involved, interlaced with features on the charities they give money to... & who ever is hosting it giving running totals, and demanding we give more money

It makes far more sense to me to appeal to people to give regularly - time or money, whichever they can afford. That's much more what charity should be about.

I remember the very first Red Nose day back in 1988 - I was in my sixth year at school and we all wore red noses for the whole day. Back then they were just plain noses - now they come in all different styles

I actually cant be bothered watching the telly programmes - they bore me - I agree with PeterCat that charity donations should be made regularly - if you choose to.
