They are getting on my nerves!  What is it with informing parents of an event the day before it happens?  I got a note out with my kids today that they are having a Book Day of some sort tomorrow and all kids are to dress up as a character from a book and bring in the book that their character is from!  I've got 2 kids at the school and am expected to pull costumes and books from my ar*e for tomorrow morning!  I think that's really unfair.  If I don't send them in dressed up the kids will be upset and if I keep them at home they are missing a day's work and the teachers will know it was because I was avoiding the dressing up part when in reality I can't afford to go to town and buy costumes and books.  I wouldn't even know where to start on home made costumes from books they already have.

This isn't the only time they have done things like this.....at xmas when the snow was bad we were told that the Kris Kringle would be done a day early giving us one day inbetween to get to town and buy gift.

Rant over......for now.

That's it Rexi....World Book Day.  I wouldn't have minded even being told yesterday as I was in town today but the eldest only brought the note home at 4:30.  Usually I would have superhero costumes from past halloweens here but the kids are growing like weeds so none of them fit.

Just mentioned the Muggle idea to the kids and they aren't impressed but sod it they'll have to be if they want to dress up!

Oh I hear ya!!!

World bleedin Book Day!!!

When he was in primary my boy went one year as Huckleberry fin (cut down jeans, braces, an old straw hat with bits pulled out of it and freckles penciled on his face with eyeliner)..   and the following year as batman..    black cape made from some table covering stuff I had laying around, batman t shirt, jeans... & I face painted the top half of his face into a batman mask.

However, both of those were in primary school.      He is in Year 9 now, and came home this week saying it was World Book Day & they had been told if they could to dress up...    I have finally convinced him its not that cool to do it at his age...  best he just goes in his own clothes!

For my son last year cos it was his last year at Primary I knocked up a quick Oliver Twist costume....which was old trackies cut down with jagged bottom (like Ditty's Huck Finn)...a t-shirt, an old v neck jumper of mine I cut the arms off, a flat cap then his face was made up in the morning with mascara smeared all over to look like dirt....he won...again!

It's not so bad now mine are in year 10 and 11 but I used to hit the roof when their primary school did this. I'd often find the "letter" after they'd gone to bed requesting 567 fairy cakes for tomorrow morning yada yada. Being on my tod and working full time I was in no position to leave the house to buy ingredients or costumes or whatever even if I could afford it! Aside from the fact that by 9pm all I wanted was a large glass of wine and a sit down.

I worked on the assumption the school thought all of us were yummy mummies swanning around in our 6 litre 4x4's between the health club and the posh coffee shop in the village and it was a small matter to have the au pair knock something up.
