The best line I ever heard about Eastenders (although it can also apply to Corrie) was way back in the early years when it was at its peak and drawing-in 25 million viewers per week:
"If Eastenders is supposed to be so true-to-life, why don't we hear the characters discussing Eastenders?"

[In fairness though, Dot has admitted that she and Jim are Corrie fans! ]

I think he's gone home to his mum!

We saw her visiting him in hospital, and she told Carol to leave her son alone.

Ohhh that must be the end of that storyline then

In home and away  (the only soap I watch) Ruby had a big story line about being diabetic yet tonight she's scoffing Tiramisu with loads of chocolate - have they forgotten it's sugar laden and would be bad for a diabetic

everyone in Australia is willing to take in someone else's troubled child

Think that was a tribute to Corries 50th anniversary.

Why for instance does the local big shot gangster not have a washing machine and prefer to wash his smalls in a laundrette staffed by the local gossip?

Why can more or less anyone seem to walk in and out of a closed nightclub in the middle of the day and help themselves to drinks?  If you're like me, and have tended to forget your coat or top and left them in nightclub cloakrooms, you'll know that nightclubs (especially small ones) tend to be very minimally staffed or empty and tend to be difficult access during the day.

They have an explanation for this, apparently they wanted Emmett Scanlan to play another character a while ago but he wasn't available then and they really wanted him to join so he agreed this time then they wrote in that Cheryl and Brendan were half brother and sister and that Brendan grew up in Dublin because Brendan was originally meant to be Northern Irish but it would have caused confusion with Emmett's accent.
