I must admit, I have become fascinated by all things Danish since watching The Killing.

Heheh - yes, a mere 10 hours for the second series felt like a sprint!

For anyone who missed it (or wants to watch it again): remember that the last two episodes will be repeated tomorrow night!

BTW, Veggie: Do you think you'll be watching "Borgen" when it comes on soon? I'm undecided at the moment: I've heard it described as "politically naive", but apparently the second series got a lot better...

I haven't heard of that one. Is it another BBC4 one? They seem to have an eye for real quality European crime drama. I loved the first series of Spiral too but also found that very short.

I hope that the Beeb will be showing the 2nd and 3rd series too

Borgen: yes, BBC4 are showing it. It's a political drama rather than a crime thriller (although that complements the political strands of "The Killing").  They're making a fuss because SÃļren Malling (Jan Meyer in the first series of "The Killing") is in it.

(BTW: did you know that Malling and Sofie GrÃĨbÃļl both had minor roles in the Dogme film "Mifune" back in 1999? I've actually seen "Mifune", and I only discovered this recently!   )

Spiral: BBC4 have shown the 2nd and 3rd series previously. I believe they're eventually going to work through the whole thing again. (My parents are certainly hoping so: they came in late to the 3rd series, and are trying to catch-up from Series 1 too...)

Thanks, yes I think I will give Borgen a go. I have been so impressed with the series' that you and others have recommended Quality tv is in short supply I find.

I have only seen the first series of Spiral and that ended with no resolution so I am really keen to see the subsequent series.

I don't know how your parents can start watching a programme like Spiral from later series onwards. Must be really confusing

Yes, I think they had some difficulty (the stories are largely self-contained, but there are still a number of references to events in series 2, just as Lund is haunted by what happened in the first series), but they seemed to manage it. They were still rather keen to go back to the beginning, though!

(Without giving away any spoilers, I think my Mum's biggest "problem" was with the events at the end: she wasn't expecting them at all, and sounded in shock when I spoke to her afterwards!   )

Eugene's Lair

That's parents for you!! I just couldn't get into something if I had to join in halfway through.

When I used to watch Buffy, I used to love the Bronze posting boards, which made C4 at the height of BB7 look tame, but because the States were way ahead of us in the airtime of episodes, if you read the board then it would spoil the story.

If you watch a series like Buffy or The Killing where they are not afraid to take risks with major characters then the art of the storyteller is lost if you know what's going to happen. One of the strengths of shows like these is that they can shock you when you least expect it.

Changing the subject slightly, I watched a really absorbing French film the other night called The Class. Anyone seen it?

It's a great feeling when everything is bought and wrapped and all the food shopping is done.

Now it's time to relax and enjoy!
