Stand on top of your step with legs hip width apart and back straight. The heel of both feet should be off the step, with just the balls of your feet on the step.
- 2
With legs slightly bent, lower both heels towards the ground as far as you can. To keep your balance, either hold on to the banister lightly with one hand (if you are using a staircase), or keep your arms out to the sides, if you are using an aerobic step.

Slowly come up to starting position and repeat the movement. Keep the motion controlled so that you are forcing the calf muscles to do the work and keep you balanced. Repeat the exercise five to ten times and take a break. Work up to three sets of ten.

For an added challenge, as your heels come up toward the starting position, continue the movement upward and raise your heel as high as you can until you are almost on your tiptoes. This is using the full range of motion of the calf muscles and will tire the muscles more quickly.

LAZYBUGGERSONHERE!!!!!1
I walk up and down this campus every day and that suffices for me probably isn't enough by standards but oh well.
Run in the spring and autumn then
We don't have baked beans in America (well I haven't seen any anyway) but I'll definitely power walk starting tonight
(But surely two/three textbooks on my back could substitute?!)
All sorts
Astronomy, French, German, Criminal Justice and History. The heaviest book is the German one and I carry round the French/History ones together a lot.
criminal justice you say?
Yep probably the first course I'm taking just for the fun of it
And I walk the canine.
Are you sure???
I am joining a gym again - I can get a really good deal through work and it is right next to my place of work so I will have no excuse.
I loved the gym cos I hate exercise classes and am good at pacing myself,
That is impressive
Apologies for doubting you
me too!
Having said that I don't stop from getting up at half six until about 9pm ...although my job is sedentary ...as soon as I get home it's shopping and washing and getting supper sorted and malking up packed lunches and ferrying kids about and yada yada yada. I'm too knackered to "exercise". Though I hate exercise per se. I'd rather do something active like walking or dancing or gardening than a dvd.
In a year!
Spongey I was the same, lost a stone and a half in a few months then the bad weather came and I stopped going to weigh in and didn't walk to collect the kids as much (got the OH to do it) and it was creeping back on so I've been braving the cold and going to get them everyday and taking hte long way home and it feels great. I'm nearly at the 2stone loss and just need to up the exercise more now and try to get back to the healthy eating which seems to be my hurdle
