You have me at a disadvantage. Heavy metal? As far as I am concerned the first two Black Sabbath gramophone records are sufficient. I mainly like guitar based stuff. Hendrix, Paul Rudolph, James Page, Jimi, Frank, Eric, that bloke out of Mountain whose name escapes me, Bob Fripp, n Jazz Rock. Tony McPhee. Etc.

I'm not really sure what the criteria is. To me, this song is heavy metal. By the way I don't usually like heavy metal AC/DC are off the beaten track for me but I love them. This song however, is legendary, a way of life, a philosophy and yes, very very noisy

I'm still trying to work out how Santana might be confused/likened/associated mit the rather average Mark knopfler and crew.

I believe it is to do with the kind of music you hear when going up and down in an elevator and the similarity of such music with aforementioned deadly duo.
