The BBC has commissioned a third series of hit sitcom Miranda.

The second series of Miranda Hart's BBC Two comedy concluded last year with an audience of 4.3m - an all-time high for the show. However, it remains unclear if the programme will move to BBC One for its third run.

Comedy commissioner Cheryl Taylor recommissioned the show but has yet to to assign it a channel. BBC One controller Danny Cohen is believed to be 'keen' to secure it.

"We are delighted that Miranda will be continuing to create fabulous comedy for the BBC," a spokesperson said. "As yet there have not been detailed discussions about which channel she may appear on."

Cast members including Patricia Hodge and Tom Ellis are apparently expected to return for the new series, which is expected to be broadcast towards the end of the year.

Well blow me down.

Miranda Hart and Harry Hill are the frontrunners for this year's British Comedy Awards, having picked up four nominations each.

Hart has been shortlisted for 'Best Comedy Actress', while her popular BBC programme Miranda receives nods in the 'Best Sitcom' and 'Best New British TV Comedy' categories.
