Small correction about the Olympics.....it benefits parts of East London and does feck all for the rest of us...who are having to pay towards the beggars via council tax whether we like it or not

As for the WC bid, it just highlights the corruption within Fifa...England should pull out of it now...

Giving it to Russia just about passes but Qatar have basically bought the World Cup....just as they have bought world class athletes (mainly Kenyan) to wear their vest and elevate their status in the athletics world.

Its all about the money (and oil)...

I for one will not watch any of the Olympics, why should I ?. Just coz it's being held in England means feck all to a Midlander (Nottingham) like me. The Media will and Government will just yack on about how great it is for London, who gives a shit, OK you will get you tax bill, but that's for you lot to complain to the Government about. I can just imagine the travel chaos for the atheletes now, what a disaster it will be.

In my heart of hearts I wasn't expecting it and I suppose I wasn't expecting the other locals to get it. None of us are rich enough or corrupt enough anymore. If they get their way they'll probably hold the European nation's cup in the USA.

I think its a good thing we didn't get the World Cup.

IF i was a football fan and lived in another country I wouldn't want to come to the UK to watch the world cup. Why would I want to put up with hoards of hooligans and violence over the fact the England are crap at football.

Its the same every world cup (and euro), all this build up about how great 'England' are, we lose a match, the troublemakers go ballistic. If the UK did host it, I would probably go off on a months holiday.

I agree with Rawky about the World Cup to an extent. We attended the best World Cup ever in Germany 2006 and we kept pinching ourselves and saying, "This would never work in England!" But it would have been pleasant to have had another local one.

Sorry but this "Racist" part is nonsense... rarely do you hear racism on matches in England and its unlikely it would happen in the WC.

Heres a picture... from Russia, which is one of the worst countrys in the world for Racism (Italy probably being the worst). Not to mension we probably have the better policing/stewards than any of the countrys that did bid for the WC. I wouldnt knock the country too much... though I agree about their minds being made up from the beginning. I think they see us as arrogant though, nothing to do with drunken racist hooligans because Russia is just as bad for racist hooligans.

And how would holding World Cup matches in Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle etc only benefit London and the South East.

Nowadays this country is one of the btter ones as regards racism and trouble in general...because having dealt with it for many years we know HOW to deal with it.

You would be mad to try make racist chants at the game these days aswell... not only would you get thrown out, but its likely you will get your head kicked in by those around you. Mind you there is a certain Adebayor chant though which is often heard on games

IMHO it's good that the WC went to Russia. The country will have to be more accessible and that can only be good for relations, political and/or otherwise.
Birmingham and Aston Villa have shown scant regard for what they should have some real interest in.

I really can't bring myself to care. I loathe "team sports" and I doubt very much that I'll even watch any of the Olympics (it tends to be the time when my boxed sets get watched).

I think that we have to hit them where it hurts and that's by getting as many teams through to the euro finals as we can. The last four in the (so-called) Champions cup would be ideal, even Chelsea, and an all England  final in that other one.
