further to my post about the accident, the car is a write off, remember how much I loved and cherished it? Well it's dead.

Cologne - I am so sorry.
It is a dreadful thing to lose a little bit of independence .
I would be devastated if anything happened to my car.
Can you get another one?

I'm sorry to hear that, Cologne. I know you depended on your car to get you out and about.
Dame and Issy: thank you. Yes I can get another car, my darling mechanic has a ford escort on the forecourt for 1000 pounds. I can have it for ÂĢ 800 and I can pay it off over 2 months, so it's ok, but I'm still very much cheesed off about my mazda, which I've only had for 3 months.
cologne what a shame
Sorry Cologne sounds like a colossal pain I hope you like your new one

Everybody, thank you. I'm just mouthing off because I'm so cheesed off about myself
Hi cologne, just had something go wrong with my car also, although not as bad as yours and not a write off. Will cost a load to fix, just at the worst time of the year and when the job prospects look distinctly shite.
Hope things get sorted quickly for you and best of luck (to myself also)

Hey, come on you! Shitty things happen to the best people and blaming yourself isn't the way
Don't blame yourself for what's happened, by the sounds of it the car saved you serious injury and took the brunt of the crash. It's good that you have a decent mechanic who is honest with you too. You've got another vehicle lined up so there's a reason to find some good in the outcome (God that sounds so crass and jolly but I hope you know what I mean!)
Carnelian, sorry to see you're having troubles too. Really hope things start turning around for you soon
xx

Hi cologne It's awful when you lose your car, especially when you depend on it for getting around (I would be totally stuck without mine). Mine has got to "that" age where things are beginning to constantly need repairing now, I can't afford to renew it either. I'm lucky that my daughter's boyfriend is a mechanic and is very obliging! Also my son uses it loads since he passed his test so shares the costs. Hopefully you'll get sorted out soon and be mobile again XX
thats a shame... but at least you are ok... its only metal after all.. you are flesh n blood
The same thing happened to me last year. The insurance company wrote my car off but it was low mileage and in great condition and its a Mazda too but 20 years old and looked after perfectly by its previous owner, still only just over 40,000 on the clock. I accepted the pay-out and told them I wished to repair the car myself. I found a local garage and he repaired it perfectly and at far less cost than was quoted by the insurance company's repairer.
The only faff is that then you have to take it to a local station(VOSA) to have them verify that it is the same car and no funny business has taken place (ie cut and shut) and have it re-MOT'd. If the car is in good condition apart from the damage then this is worth considering.
