The stars of EastEnders are reportedly being offered counselling after breaking down while filming scenes for an upcoming cot death storyline.

Filming of the plot, which sees Ronnie Mitchell steal Kat Moon's baby after her own child dies, apparently had to be paused as the actors and crew struggled to deal with the emotional scenes.

A source told The Sun: "Most of the crew have never shot anything quite so sensitive.

"Filming stopped for over an hour as people found it hard to continue without breaking down. It will certainly be very strong viewing."

The tragedy will unfold during a New Year's Eve party at the Queen Vic, when Ronnie, played by Samantha Womack, swaps the babies.

Isn't this very poor writing on behalf of eastenders, Ronnie has had so much heartache would it not have been fair to give her a good storyline for once.

You really would have thought so wouldn't you? I'm sick to death of looking ay her sulky, miserable face .............it'd make a refreshing change to see her smiling for once!

God only knows why EE always wins the soap awards etc. - some really unimaginative storylines and characters that are inconsistent and unbelievable ........... impossible to feel any sympathy or indeed any emotion towards them IMO.

Oh God what a horrible storyline And I agree, why not give Ronnie's character a break for a change? Surely they could have come up with other 'shocking' storylines than having to go down this route? What an emotive subject to tackle over what is supposed to be an enjoyable, festive time. Isn't there enough doom and gloom going on in the country at the moment? The viewers need escapism and something to lift moods, especially around Christmas and New Year, when we are supposed to ring out the old and in with the new or whatever it is.

Gawd I've gone off on a ranty thing again, but it's actually rather pissed me off!

When you think about it,  Ronnie is such a miserable cow, how would she ever be able to "act happy"?

Recently she has been like a breath of fresh air being pregnant and marrying jack. I think if they were to do the storyline they should have done it with kats baby as it was alfies cousins and it would give kat and alfie a clean slate (that sounds so callous but you know wat i mean)

That does make more sense, storyline wise.

They did a cot death storyline years ago which was heart breaking, why do it again..
Ah yes - Little Hassan, the son of Sue and Ali (the original owners of the Cafe).
I wrote about this recently - for me, it still remains the most moving thing Eastenders has ever done.

I still remember the reaction to it: people were discussing it in the street as if it was a real death. I recall Steve Wright mentioning it on his Radio 1 show (as was), and saying that he kept having to remind himself that he was just a fictional soap character...

I thought I'd seen it written here but could'nt remember by who sorry, yes it was one of the most traumatic storylines of a soap I'd seen and I'd been very upset about the Cathy and Jacky miscarage on Emerdale because I'd not long miscaried myself but the cot death in Eastenders was very traumatic so why go there again?, surly they could think of something else....

No doubt the writers will come out with some line about how most viewers won't remember Sue and Ali, but yes, I agree with you: I personally don't see the need to go there again either.

I also have to agree with the OP and others in that I'm not happy that this is yet another heartbreak story for Ronnie. When you look back at all that's happened to her (and she's only been in the show for 3 years or so, remember), she comes across as an extreme example of a "misery porn" heroine. Quite frankly, the scriptwriters' treatment of her is starting to border on the sadistic, IMO...
