You're probably not far off the mark there.  We see time and again there are people out there who will jump on bandwagons to suit their own selfish agendas.  I'm just glad I chose not to march although many from my college have attended.  It has reflected badly on the march organisers.  Their initial positive media coverage has been tainted, and their message lost.

In my experience of protest and demonstration, albeit back in the seventies, it's almost impossible to have a peaceful day out without someone trying to cause trouble. One can set out with the best will in the world but it only takes a couple of non-aligned individuals to start up. That and a mixture of agents provocateurs, and one or two police who also fancy a spot of the old ultra-violence makes for a dangerous day out. Even though it goes against democratic ideology I wouldn't go on a demo if you paid me.
