I don't apologise unless I actually mean it so no I won't be apologising as I have nothing to apologise for, and it's nothing personal against you Isadora as I like you as forumer, but even if I was thinking of apologising, I definitely wouldn't now after being told to.

I have taken a voluntary leave of absence for a few weeks now as I appear to have a differing opinion to the majority on here.

Just looked in and seen this .

Whilst I agree that it's horrific to envisage a 10 year old giving birth I don't think we can even begin to imagine the cultural differences where this sort of thing happens and is accepted. I'm not saying it's in any way desirable but who are we to stand in judgement?

And why should Crunchy apologise?? FGS ..............he had a bit of fun ........why have people chosen to take offence. It happened in a country where the social/moral values differ from ours.

This is a forum and differing POV's (and humour) are part of the deal aren't they?

Although it's tragic (IMO) for a young girl to be giving birth I don't honestly see why someone on here is castigated for having an alternative view.

I've noticed your absence Soozy .

I hardly ever agree with your views, and sometimes find myself  gritting my teeth to your posts....however........ I like your contribution to the forum, and I  have missed you about the place.

That's what forum life is all about

Sorry stoory I'm going to have to respond to this. So what you're basically saying is that even though she is pretty much the Child Of Satan in your view you have missed her?

I read the 'headline' with horror, but was relieved that this was actually a case that didn't involve rape, or abuse, as such.

Medically, it is much more dangerous at such an early age and, obviously, not desirable in any culture, but we do have to take cultural issues into account, before condemning, out of hand. Kids of this age do talk about sex, do think about sex and some do enter puberty this early. Without societal pressure not to enter into these relationships and without education about the medical dangers involved, this has happened in every single culture on the planet.

If you recognise that we are merely another animal species, then you must also accept that this is normal in nature.

At least, in this case, the mother and baby survived and have the support of their family.

If we don't, who will? Why is 'cultural differences' always cited as an excuse for the most appalling human practices in the same way religion is accepted as a legitimate excuse for mass murder?
I'm very interested in this particular political subject. I don't think any of us here "accept" these cultural differences, but it's an absolute minefield, fraught with danger, when we attempt to tinker with, or interfere with, people from other lands of which we know very little.  We can't cherry pick the bits we like and the bits we don't like. Normally foreign misadventure turns to shite. (Clausewitz)
The United Nations Charter for children is probably the most ignored charter of all time. It's a disgrace. **waits for soops, as she really knows her stuff**

I think the age of consent is put into practice to protect the young, the age of consent is 15 in Romania and Spain is 13, she is still under age....
Both of them are under the age of consent Stonks, (if it is true that the father is 13.)
I'm assuming that the cultural issue being referred to here is that of Roma gypsys and ref the grandmother's comments, as clearly  in neither Romania or Spain is the legal age to marry 10 years old!!!
Fwiw, I do think that we should 'intefere' where certain cultural practices result in the abuse or exploitation of children. There have been many cases here where children have suffered the most appalling abuse and the authorities have failed to act to protect them for fear of being considered racist. Thankfully we appear to have learned those lessons. I'm thinking particularly here of cultural practices of physical beating of children, female genital mutilation and forced marriage

I agree Soozy, but I'm not sure that is what happened in this case, if I'm reading it right, it was more a case of some objecting to someone clearly being on a wind-up by pretending that they fathered a child aged 7. But that's our Crunchy for you Personally I hardly believe a word he posts and take it all with a pinch of salt, I just assume that most of his posts are intended to get a reaction and get folk to bite. Have I got that wrong???

I think the girl looks a bit older than 10 in the first picture, but not much.  I think it's a great shame that children in any culture lose their childhood at such an early age, but sadly some children DO have sex at a very young age, and I can't see how it can be prevented if it's consensual.  I work with a number of primary schools, and there have been several occasions when headteachers have found children in Years 5 and 6 engaged in very explicit acts.  I also think that many girls reach puberty at an earlier age nowadays; I knew of at least two of Growly Jnr's friends whose periods started in Year 5, and she was certainly aware of children in her year group experimenting with sex when she was in Year 6.

No matter how wrong it is for children to have sex at a very young age, we have to accept that it DOES happen.  I have no idea how it can be prevented, but I do think that parents must take far more responsiblity for educating their children about sex and relationships rather than expecting schools to do this.  I also don't think it helps that we live in a society where children are sexualised at such a young age, with totally inappropriate clothes for little girls, children's make up ranges, and things like those obscene American beauty pageants.

I know that but at 13 the boy is far more closer to sexual maturaty than the girl and I agree someone should interviene, the grandmother said that it was normal for children to live as if they were married from the age of 10 and that these two had lived like a married couple, they are young cousins and should have been living as brother and sister, I think there would have been mass hysteria if the 10 yr old had been living as married and pregnant with her say 25yr old uncle but I bet the grandmother would'nt see wrong in that....
