I think approx one in six people live in that London, and you will have your own method of using the language. Those of us out in the sticks have ours. Dialect and all that.
I'm not that far away. It's just surprising you don't pick these things up from TV or from people you meet from other places. Not that I consider myself an expert on dialect of course, I'm just surprised I've never heard it before.

Well that's just it. Round here, people under the age of 21 have a totally different language to the rest of us mere mortals. Words like 'sick' mean 'good' , 'spitting' is a term for a rapping like thingy.....my son talks to me sometimes and I'm just like this ----->

And there was I thinking you were 'down with the kids'. I can understand youth terminology except for when 'sick' becomes 'good' seriously wtf is that all about?

Yes (Ipod docking station)

No...   dunno what thrutch is all about...   it sounds itchy & kinda sore!

Yes...   had lead part in school musical many years ago...   Dunno about a good voice (as in nice to listen to)..  but I am still undefeated on my Jamelia "Stop" score on Playstation Singstar.    (though there is a note you have to hit two thirds of the way through the song, that when I do the squeal required to hit the game bar...   makes the dog run out of the room with his tail tucked under him like a whippet!)

In my part of the world:
Fettle or fettling is something a welder does to smooth down  a weld and take of the dross. In other words they rub it down and make it shiny and smooth. It also is used in the context of ."I am in fine fettle today" meaning I feel very well and happy.
Gawpy is used in these parts as in " He looks a bit gawpy". meaning he looks lank and gormless.

Thrutch................well that is something peeps do if they are constipated. As in " I could hear him thrutching on the loo, he needs some syrup of figs"
That is the Yorkshire interpretation of these 3 words.
