Yesterday Johnny Depp made a surprise school visit. From the BBC:

Hollywood star Johnny Depp has made an unannounced visit to a London primary school after receiving a letter from one of its pupils.

The actor turned up at the school in Greenwich, south-east London, dressed as his Pirates of the Caribbean alter-ego Captain Jack Sparrow.

He said nine-year-old Beatrice had written to Captain Jack, asking him to lead a mutiny against her teachers.

Depp, 47, has been filming the latest instalment of the franchise in London.

After his arrival, a special school assembly was called and the film star - along with other members of the cast dressed in full costume - walked in.

Depp produced Beatrice's letter and performed for the children for 15 minutes.

But he told the schoolgirl that a mutiny might get them into trouble.

Footage of the surprise appearance was sent to CBBC's Newsround programme.

And here is a Youtube clip of this visit

I was attending a taxation course a couple of years ago when for no particular reason the lecturer suddenly put up a photo of Johhny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. He then asked us to say who was the photo of. No-one put up their hands to answer. He asked again, and in the end I told him as no-one else was going to. Considering I am a bit of a film buff and Depp's portrayal as Jack Sparrow has to be one of the most  famous images in modern films, it would be surprising if I didn't recognise the photo.

The lecturer then said something strange. He said that whenever he asked this question at other courses he gave, it was almost always a man who answered rather than a woman. We all know that women find Johhny Depp to be a bit of a heart throb. So why did he put up the photo and why his comment

I had a Physics teacher who would chuck a sponge brick at us, when he felt we weren't concentrating
Many years ago when I was at school we had a Religious Education teacher who suddenly walked down towards the back of the room and hit one of the other boys. I don't know what the boy had been doing, but there was a dead silence. The teacher then left the room when he realised that he had lost it. He was immediately sacked and we never saw him again.

Ummm he's gotta gain some brownie points after telling a magazine that he hated eating the food the catering team offered on the film set and that British set scene workers were bad workers when compared to American ones.  It went down like a lead balloon and I'm surprised one of the set workers hasn't place a piece of the set or prop in a particular orifice

Oh dear....mind you Ed Balls was at the secondary school electioneering a few months back.

Meridian kids get to do a  few things..it was kids from there that took part in the Millennium Dome opening ceremony/year 2000 thing, some of them were in a Tv thing about john Harrison..I forget what that was called, it might have been Longitude, and the older son was one of a handful of kids that had to help Prince Andrew open some new thing they had at the Royal Observatory.

All on account of the school being on the Meridian line of course.

they filmed Shanghai Knights at the Naval College (which is right next door)
He was filming Pirates there wasn't he so not too far to travel I guess but a nice thought (and good publicity) all the same.

Having said that I did read he spent a few nights at Great Ormond Street hospital as Captain Jack reading to the kids there by way of a thank you after his child was taken seriously ill and treated at said hospital. Odd really given he's played J M Barrie.

And I'm not sure where the fancying thing comes from El Loro. Do loads of women fancy Mr Depp? I think he's at his most attractive as Captain Jack(and he is a lovely looking man I suppose) but I'd not say I fancied Captain Jack or Jonny Depp. More like I'd be attracted to having a bloody good time out on a jolly with him.

What do I know?  I prefer Tim Burton.

I've just got back from a meal with some friends from work, and one of them was the person at Meridian Primary School who arranged for Johnny Depp to visit the school.  We've spent all evening drooling over the photos of her with Mr Depp.   She had him hidden away in her office at one point whilst the children were being moved up to the hall - and the silly woman let him out again     I'm almost as jellus as I would have been if she'd had John McCririck hidden in the broom cupboard.

Yeah, i went on a semi stalking mission last Saturday but never saw him, saw some scenes being filmed and ate our way round Greenwich.

Thats the school I told you about Cariad where my kids learned the sign language.
