I need your help.

I want to buy some new bedroom furniture. Picture the scene.... purple damask flock wallpaper (one wall) rest of the walls white. black chandelier and black shades on the silver bedside lamps. Black sort of ornate chair thing. Purple curtains, purple bed and loads of lovely purple and black cushions.

What sort of furniture do i buy to go with this lot that i dont want to change

i was thinking mirrored, but it will date quickly and be a nightmare to polish. So then i though can i go white ? would shabby chic white go with that lot.

im having a mare

I really like all that white shabby chic stuff but do you think it would go with the dark purple? thats my main worry. and the odd black thing hanging around.

None, Gypsie. Bedrooms should be empty.

If you must put furniture in then buy second hand, sand it well, paint it in layers then sand the corners etc back off. And do not be too careful.

Seriously though, your bedroom sounds quite full enough.

I used to have a similar colour scheme in my flat in the living room, I bought a second hand (for £15) dining table and chairs and painted it with metallic silver paint .... it looked good with the black and purple ..... and it was cheap

hoochie, i was worried you would need dark stuff but good to know light stuff went well against the purple.

I would go with the shabby chic - perhaps get a second hand pine set and then paint it white (or cream) and sand off a bit off the white paint.

I did something similar with the bed in my guest room - an old pine bed stead. First painted it blue (light, dove blue) and then painted it white. Sanded the bits where it would be natural wear and tear. YOu can then wipe on a stain that makes it look really olde worlde.

Have a look in house clearence shops or even auctions. Or if you really can't find anything, try Argos cheap wood range. Unfinnished wood would be good.

Moonbeams - that link to Sylvesters in Oxford was a surprise. It used to be a really big shop in Little Trendy Street in Oxford ... really original and good. Now it is a small shop full of tat.

the shabby chic sounds good some nice second hand pine painted, theres a paint called aged white which is nice,(its a crown paint) white tends to loose its white white really quickly.

Personally I'd use cream as it's a softer/warmer contrast than white furniture to go with black and purple, just my thoughts
