I suspected that the S girl of G & S was Autotuned (but thought at the time it was out of the question) but she still sounded off key part of the time but I thought it was to justify the judges putting her through to Bootcamp.
I see in today's Guardian that a spokeman for the programme (while not admitting to autotuning) did say that sound has to be tweaked and the best possible result offered to viewers.

In a talent show, I would want to hear the talent as it is, not messed about with by technology.
I want to know if they can sing or not as they are not improved artificially.

Some MPs (Don Foster & Tom Watson are two) are now questioning the authenticity of a talent show in which contestants are receiving artificial help.
They have just had an item about it on the Radio 4 PM origramme.
So they can sing sharp or flat or miss the note and technology will make them sound right.
