Dame Anne - sorry to hear you`ve had your share of dealings with mental illness.  I can see where you`re coming from with the `Mummy`s Boy` idea, but BPDs can come across as just impossible brats and they are often mummy`s boy`s because of their utter fear of abandonment. I work with BPDs and my son has it - I think that`s why I saw John James`s vulnerability early on.  Most people cannot deal with BPDs and do brand them as tosspots, mad etc - even their own families. I must say even me at times. Its one of the most frustrating and difficult to deal with.  But they suffer inside.  Sorry to go on.

He doesn't appear to be suffering when he's laughing his head off at the expense of someone else getting upset.
Zackerly. Different kettle of fish when he's upset, feeling down or going through troubles though, which is often the case with ignorant hypocrites. I find it hard to believe he's over 20 sometimes, thank feck he hasn't got kids yet

Don't assume that people who disagree with you have no understanding of mental illness, they might just be disagreeing with you
Precisely. No amount of verbose and superficial knowledge  speculative 'rationalization' will change that. Give it up OP - Crab boy will not transform into the 'Prince'.
