I wonder why so many people walked this year? I wonder if they think being in for a while is enough for the mag deals etc so they just think to hell with it I'm off. I'm still amazed all the walkers were given airtime on BBBM and BBLB the only way to stop them walking is to take all their publicity away. You wouldn't have a single walker. Channel 5 take note in case you're taking Big Brother over.

I don't include Josie in this she did her time as it were and stayed for the whole show.

UBB is a separate show.

Josie was clearly asked by Davina (more than once) if she wanted to do it - nobody forced her. A criticism of walkers has often been that they had taken the place of another potential housemate that would have seen the experience through - on that count alone Josie should be included!

I suppose you could argue she signed up for the duration and that included the length of time in UBB but BB let her out of the house where she could see her friends and family (and that tosser John James) so different rules apply imo. It was always going to be too much of a culture shock to go back in.

There is so little media interest these days only the winner or highest profile housemates have any chance of gaining coverage. If you want the mag deals or are desperate foe media exposure you would place yourself under 50 cameras and in front of 3m viewers for the longest possible time, surely? The only walker that i can recall all over magazines was Chanelle Hayes - and that was back in 2007 - plus she had done a 9 week stint anyway.

BBLB viewing figures are now so low i don't think they even register for an individual count and BBBM resembles being thrown to the lions - these are not exactly rewards. I don't think the threat of taking away something that isn't much good would work. Also, this culture of threatening to walk is potentially very disruptive for the narrative and boring for the viewer - but doesn't seem to have a negative stigma attached to it.

That's exactly the problem. They all get magazine deals of some sort and their agents rely on continued media exposure to get them. Treating walkers as though they no longer existed in the eyes of channel 4 would definitely make them think twice in fact I doubt they'd try to pull the stunt in the first place. That would mean walking had very negative connotations and I think the only people who would walk would be the ones who genuinely just had to get out for the sake of their sanity (i.e. maybe 1 per cent of all walkers).

I think those that constantly talk of walking but never do it are more disruptive than those that walk - but the talkers (who hold the show to ransom for weeks on end) are rewarded, rather than punished. Sophie Reade kept talking about leaving last year because she was bored and missed going out with her friends: WINNER!!! Siavash, withdrew himself from the game - sort of walking for those too idle to get up and go: RUNNER UP!!!

Your negative connotations might have convinced Laura to have stayed - but i think we saw enough in 3 days to suggest that she wasn't going to be funny, entertaining or controversial. In this instance, rather than denying another housemate the chance; such a quick departure actually opened up an opportunity - which Sam grabbed with some effect! I wonder how many among the legion of Sam fans (currently 90,000+ Twitter followers) are now disappointed that Laura walked?

I agree with that. I really hate it. BB should just say to them fair enough get your things together and we'll get you out and just watch their faces drop. Please don't get me started on Siavash I loathed him with a vengeance. Good point out about Laura and Sam, fortunately that particular walking debacle turned out to be a huge bonus for the viewers.

Josie was euphoric at having won the show, She therefore was unable to really make an informed decision as to what she really wanted. She had a place in that house by default - she had won the last BB. Therefore arguably she was taking no one's place. She deserved an interview - unlike all of the other walkers and she deserved her 15 minutes of fame because she was a winner.

Fame that will entirely relate to having sex with John James - classy... so good luck to her with that!

I am talking about the stint on BBBM etc but lets face it the whole JJJ roadshow was always going to end like that. Now they have done that perhaps  she and all the talentless wannabees in the house will disappear into obscurity again.
