oh! actually.... thinking about it... my contents & my buildings insurance were with the same company so perhaps the insurance man just allocated what came under which policy.

That's probably what happened. My youngest left the tap on in the loo upstairs that was over the kitchen, Well I say that - she kept doing it over a period of months.. how do I know?
Cos it was me that always found it the next morning ( it was usually after her drunken arrivals home the night before.
The first time we notice was dramatic - the paint in the hall literally bubbled .
We had 2 solid weeks of dehumidifiers - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I think that's what I need at least isadora. The wallpaper in the lounge is shot and the kitchen larder is in the worst state ever. The airing cupboard is soaking wet. I caught it just in time to prevent real damage to the rest of the house.

Hi Col.. I'm not sure about the insurance thing - my sister's upstairs neighbour had a leak that came through to her ceiling and she had to claim off her own insurance That said though - it's her flat - this is the HA's so I'd be tempted to check first re the cost of the bills.,. and if you say you're not going to pay to dry the property out, they'll surely do something.
Most importantly though - get yourself to the doc's tomorrow to let him know what's happened and what the various implications might be for you. Is it possible the HA might be able to arrange temporary emergency accommodation for you? If so, get your doctor onside asap. Hope you get it sorted, sweetheart.

He's on his hols kaffy. TBH, today was all about finding out what the hell was going on. The plumber was brilliant and fixed something I thought might be an awful job, ie, take the ceiling down in the airing cupboard, but he solved it. The leak happened to be in the cavity between upstairs and downstairs. Tricky, but no damage upstairs, just me and it wasn't my water pipe. I've never thought about anything like this before. As before Argghhh. Reference:

Your GP or your consultant? If the former, surely there must a locum - or if not, worth giving the consultant's secretary a ring and asking advice? If it's going to make you ill (the damp or the fixing) I'd seriously ask about emergency accommodation. xxReference:
