It is as task Scotty... (info gleaned from DS)
Sam has to convince the HM that he packed that gear himself.

If he passes he gets his own suitcase, if he fails he has to wear he dodgy gear for the rest of his stay.

He keeps going on about packing the stuff himself and they have rumbled him for sure. It's still lip bitingly funny though.
