Well there are lots of footie fans in SA in the moment who are all trying to represent their country not the club they live near or have defended all their lives. I do understand that it's difficult to back Rooney when he's been a complete twit, but when it comes to the WC, you surely must feel some solidarity. I do for Germany and I haven't lived there for 31 years.
Im just being honest, say Rooney was to score a WC winning goal... I would be absolutely devastated, could you imagine the media aswell? It would make you cringe.

I would of course be slightly happy that the country I am from won the world cup, but it really doesnt mean that much to me. Germany seem a likeable team, young lads playing for each other, ours seem to be involved in some scandal every month and just show up because if they didnt then they would get slaughtered by the media. Thats what its all about... just about their image.

The PL just promotes players who are doing it for the money, not the glory. The glory only happens when you have to defend your couintry.
Would just like to add you could possibly say the same for the WC when promoting players, people just watch teams to snap up new players. Alexis Sanchez is just one of the few players that clubs will be looking to sign up.
