While everyone in the country seems to be ranting on about the sh** that was our football team yesterday (I am going by what I read and hear as I didn't see the match), I would like to mention another England team that deserves our praises, and got about 30 seconds on the sports news on BBC breakfast this morning as opposed to the 10 or more mins that was afforded the Football team.
I an avid football fan, but I also love cricket, as does my younger son, and so for his birthday I bought him a ticket to see England play Australia in a one day match yesterday. I was gutted to see we would miss the world cup match, but turns out I made a good choice.

It looked like we might lose after a collapse towards the end, but we fought back and have now won the one day series against our biggest rivals in cricket.

I saw our lads play cricket with sportsmanship, humour and talent and above all pride, and made me proud to be English yesterday, so let's big them up and give them the congratualations they deserve.

WELL DONE ENGLAND CRICKET TEAM!!!!!

it's the 'beautiful game' where they don't stop for tea and they play through rain
i prefer cricket and rugby to the less than beautiful games ive watched recently.

i'll be waving my flag for japan and ghana, both played with an amount of freedom and joy, that can't be said for most of the other teams.

you rarely see cheating in cricket and rugby, and the disallowed goal was cheating , the goalkeeper was aware it  was a goal but did his best to confound the linesman.in the mexico game  the agrentinian stiker knew he was offside but the goal stood.

both games were pretty pointless after that and certainly a long way from beautiful.

although the i do admit the costumes are good this year.

Moomin, I must have seen you and your son on the highlights on Channel 5. I had been following the match on the radio and then watched the highlights. Strauss did particularly well, but it was a bit of a concern as to how England almost fell apart towards the end. I know this isn't a footie thread, but I do wonder if the showing of the football result on the big screen on the ground threw the English players. The way the highlights were televised showed the almost collapse starting immediately after the result appeared. But well done England.

Pink Babe - I understand cricket is not everyone's cup of tea, but thanks for acknowledging the team and accepting that we are not crap at all sports!!
Thanks hun, sorry to bring the other team into it.  I'm not a cricket lover by any stretch of the imagination, but have been known to watch the Ashes and have even been known when younger to go and watch cricket at the local ground where I grew up, with a good book of course.

My nan was a huge cricket fan and every year the test matches were always on.. I grew  up listening to TMS on the radio and admit to listening to that not for the cricket, but for the general chatter that goes on!  I do wish the cricket team every success this summer and hope they bring the Ashes home in the winter.  I admit though, I do like most sports, and will always cheer England on when they have a team/players in the sport.
