well firstly nits only like clean hair and a healthy scalp to live on.  You're not the first to get them and you won't be the last.

I've picked them up from the kids bringing them home from school as you can't force parents to treat their child's hair any more if they've got them!

You can try the wet combing method with a comb and shampoo but personally I didn't find this very effective.  If I was you I'd speak to your local pharmacist who will  be able to advise you.

Leccy's way is the only way to get rid....keep combing....they have to be a few days old to lay eggs so if ya keep combing you should catch them beforehand! Break the cycle!
Believe me I have tried all remedies including the ÂĢ25 Zapper (as was) & the conditioner/combing is the best way!
Thankfully mine are all adults now & can deal with it themselves should the need arise..
Good Luck!

Chemical stuff suffocate the eggs and kill any of the ones that are walking round.  Then once you are nit free buy a bottle of Tea Tree Oil and add a few drops to all your shampoos and that should keep tham away.  Also hoover all your beds and sofa and stuff and boil bedclothes just to make sure there are no escapees.  My neice got them recently and my sister only needed to use one application on her and she has been fine since.  I would freak out if I caught them, I have long thick hair and they loved me when I was a kid.  I ended up having to get my hair all chopped off as a last resort   so I feel for you.....they are a nightmare if you don't act quickly.

There's no shame in it, as anyone with kids or who's worked in a school knows.

secret   At any one time about 2/3 of primary school teachers, dinner ladies, TAs, school secretaries ALL have nits...occupational hazard.  You can see them jumping away and backing off from any kids they've noticed scratching that day.

Staff room convos all revolve around who's got nits again...

nits are a nightmare. why dont you want to use chemicals? that would sort you out
i dont mind hair dye-cos my hair is dark and ive been going grey since i was a youngster-im used to the hair dye
but i dont fancy this 'kill the nits' stuff
i'd rather go for a home remedy
ie
fall into a vat of vodka-get 'em pissed and kill 'em

i think ive made that one up

Oh no, i feel for you pirate. Nits are just horrible!!

I opt for the Chemicals (on EVERYONE!) when ever they turn up in my house.

The conditioner and combing method does work but it's takes time and i cant's stand it knowing either i or the kids.. or both have bugs walking around on their heads.....

Hope you are itch free asap.... after you are free of them citronella oil (a few drops mixed with water in a spray bottle) will keep them away as it's a natural bug repellent.

Oh I caught nits from my little sister, she was at primary school then and I was in the middle of sitting my O levels.Little buggers, one thing that helped was to rinse your hair in vinegar(mind your eyes though!).Then I bought a nit shampoo at the chemists, you had to use it for three weeks as the eggs hatched over different times.Oh and the nit comb, spend hours with that too. This was nearly 35 years ago.

Headlice don't prefer clean hair, they just aren't fussy, so it doesn't mean you've got dirty hair, or clean hair, if you catch them.

Anyway, I always use the loads of conditioner treatment. It makes it slippery and you can catch them in the comb more easily. But you have to keep doing it as the eggs are hatching, until you've caught all the little buggers.

I don't recommend watching the South Park episode about it, as you may get too emotional.
