I listened to the song and read the lyrics. I feel they are very inappropriate.
I can see how they may offend you - on the other hand I can see why Steve likes the song. It's two sides of the coin and I don't really see how it's reconcilable - however am I missing something? Does it matter if the protagonist was a paratrooper or soldier, sailor or airman .....he was simply a British serviceman wasn't he? Forgive me if I'm being dense - I don't see how that's relevant.

I think we may have had this convo before RR, but trust me, honestly, when young Brits,especially teenagers, sign up for the Armed Forces the political side of things is the furthest from their mind.

They think about learning a trade, travelling, getting some cash...all that sort of thing but I guarantee you 99% of them don't go in the Army for political reasons.

Don't think I don't understand your feelings or views, coz I do...but I understand theirs too

Absoloutely ...............when jobs are hard to come by - the Army/Air Force looks like a good option. I really and truly feel that politics plays no part for the majority of them in this day and age.
