Today's odd news is this BBC article . Some tadpoles have been reared by living in a pint glass of herbal redbrush tea. Apparently this decaffienated tea contains anti-fungal oxidants which means this keeps disease away from the tadpoles whilst they are growing.

How interesting! We are losing thousands of species of small animals,insects and plants due to de- forestation.We in the west are to blame,with our demand for hardwoods etc, ironically for decking,furniture etc to enhance our own gardens and homes.Same with the demand for palm sugar,which is in loads of products, biscuits etc.The great forrests of Sumatra and Indonesia are being raised to the ground to make way for palm sugar plantations.

At least some in this country have recognised this as shown by the Millenium Seed Bank Partnership spearheaded by Kew Gardens. So far they have secured seeds of 10% of the world's plant species and aim to increase this to 25% over the next 10 years. Places like the Eden Project in Cornwall help educate people and thus help conserve plants and trees.
