I bet you thought this was going to be a thread about something controversial!

Hate to disappoint but it will be far from it!

So my oven packed up tonight. Yep! Bank holiday weekend, wouldn't you know it, with friends coming over half-term!

It's a built-in single oven/grill job that was installed about 13 years ago into a fitted kitchen (AEG for those who want a good steer in reliability) so it will not be worth trying to repair.

Ahem... so back to original question. When I buy a new built-in oven will it be likely to fit into the same orifice, if you see what I mean?  Also, do you know of a good single oven/grill that opens from a left hinge? (stainless steel fascia preferred).

Also, anyone know of a good electrician who works in west London?

Thanks everyone!

Yeah... I think I've got an orifice that shape Blousey!

However... I stayed up half the night googling suitable ovens and was so horrified at the expense I've changed to Plan B. Try and get it repaired first!  I spoke to some folk and it seems a 13 year-old oven should be easily repairable. The grill is still working and the fan... so it's likely to be the heating element that has bust and a cooker repair shop near me says they can supply one of them for about ÂĢ30! A mate of mine who does a lot of DIY electrics jobs for me is going to try and get the old element out, take it to the shop to be sure it's the right one to replace and then fit a new one if/when they are in stock. I have a microwave, hob and of course a grill! I will not starve!  I will inform you all of progress in due course!

Oh... ahem... bad blonde confession to make. It's not an AEG... that's my washing machine. It's an ATAG.

I just thought I should up-date you oven worriers!

Plan B worked! No thanks to my friend who went... well... basically all DIY-disaster on me. He couldn't get the element out... as his efforts continued he remarked he was only used to installing appliances... not fixing them or dismantling them etc!

So I hurried him out with ego still intact I think... rushed to phone the shop I'd contacted before in the event of this happening and on Saturday afternoon they had a bloke around within an hour!

And in less than an hour I had a functioning oven... ÂĢ95 including the new element which he already had in his van!

The moral of which is... try and get it repaired first. I've just saved around ÂĢ600 for a replacement!
