hahaha!

I like this poll!

My desktop is a running joke in my house.   Its not cluttered with program icons as such... they are well organised.   Its just that they get lost in with all the jpeg, pdf, doc, xls, mpg etc etc etc files that are on there.

Its only cos I use my desktop as exactly that... a desktop.   so I save to desktop... any ongoing projects are saved to desktop...

Problem is I don't do my filing as often as I should! (so much for the paperless office being a more efficient streamlined world... tis exactly the same only vertical for me).

I also have the Post It post it note program... so I often have a few of them on there too (notes with titles like "Stuff I want", "Stuff I need", "To Do" !

My wallpaper pic is centred on a blue background.  It was Kurt Cobain for ages... but I have my Petville Character Killa on there at the moment!

I'm a disgrace - I've just counted how many icons I have. 91 of them

In defence I do use most of them. From time to time the system asks me if I want to get rid of any, but there aren't any which I think I don't need. I'm not posting a screen shot as I am an accountant working from home and some of the icons are of a confidential nature (and yes I am officially registered with the Data Protection Regisrar)

LOVE the desktop photos, brisket!

I sometimes have penguins on my desktop, but usually it's my cat on one screen, and my eldest grandson on the other (I use a laptop, and hook into an additional monitor at work).

I have too many icons, but they are usually stuff I need to reference immediately, or stuff I haven't "filed" yet (or trashed).

Here's the picture I have of my grandson.

hahahaha!

I'm exactly the same!   I sometimes get quite aggressive with the unused icon cleanup bubble when it pops up...

I do have "virtual hoarder" tendencies though...   but only cos I have been a victim of the law of sod more than once when I have uninstalled something I thought long redundant....  and had an unforeseen and urgent issue that only that program or widget could deal with.

Also... I have this thing with laptops & handbags... when I get a new one I promise myself to empty out the old one, sort it & transfer anything important over.   I have a spare room full of old laptops full of my "too necessary to delete files" & a cupboard full of handbags full of god knows what!

THAT's about right!!   My ex is a virgo...   He would hoard lots of old broken junk (real junk not virtual)... but reckoned because it had a home (i.e. designated storage space) it could not be useless junk!

And yes...  I did point out that he was the living proof this rule was not valid!

I'm with you El Loro and Ditty on this.
I so resent that bubble popping up to ask me if I need everything (as if I don't realise what I'm doing - no comment!)
That's one of the occasions when I speak to my computer in a certain tone.

And Lori - lovely picture!

Every time I switch on my computer I smile. I have a photo of my two grandsons on the day my youngest grandson was born (Christmas day two years ago). My oldest grandson (then aged six) is cuddling his little brother who was about 13 hours old at the time. A gorgeous picture and it brings back happy memories every time I switch my computer on.

don't know how to copy my desktop to show you but I have less than 10 icons and at the moment the desktop is a lolcat in a Monty Python style. Before that it was a picture of the Emirates Stadium in the snow but it's often a photo of my grandson.
Ok I hope this works. This is the image on my desktop at the mo, it makes me smile everytime I see it.

Yes, it worked well Veggie. It's good.
I may have to re-think my desktop. I have gone for something which doesn't irritate or confuse me, and a background which makes it easier to read the icons.
But it seems many of you have customized it in a very personal way - from loved family members to the more stimulating vision from G Joe (a "pert" picture of his wife covered in folders and applications.)

I'll give it some thought.
