There has been quite a fuss this week about the tactics and dodgy security on Facebook.

This is an extract from an article in The Guardian:
"But this week Facebook has experienced perhaps the closest thing to a crisis in its brief history, with reports of an emergency staff meeting at its California headquarters about privacy issues.

Criticism has been mounting since a revamp of the site in December meant users' profiles became publicly accessible by default. Retreating back into anonymity also became an increasingly tortuous process, with profiles now featuring 50 separate privacy settings and 170 options. This was followed in March by more changes, including plans to automatically share users' information with outside websites."

I know that when one adds an 'application' the small print usually says the providers can do what they wish with your information. So the more applications you have, the more information about you is 'out there'.
I am wary about Facebook, even since I learned that boss Mark Zuckerberg wanted to change the world.
My own security is so tight, that I can barely get in myself, and I use no applications.

Do you feel comfortable with Facebook?

I feel comfortable with it because I don't keep information, pictures or have any conversations on there that I would object to strangers having access to.

I think sometimes people's own ideas of what FB is, or should be, are the greatest barrier to them enjoying it.  To me it's simply a place to play a few mindnumbing, but strangely entertaining games and say hello to a few people while I'm doing it.

Until FB grows some sort of scary hand that can grab me through the screen, I'll consider myself safe.

I'm with Ducky on this one....   though I try to keep my profile quite secure... only visible to friends etc...  & I only accept friend requests from people who I am absolutely sure are who they say they are...  the bottom line is even if someone did get into my account there is nothing there they could do much with.

My facebook account is attached to an email account I set up purely for facebook...  my name on facebook is Ditty Bird...  my avatar is my cow pic I use on here.

If you were on a mission to identify me through facebook you probably could (since I loosened security a while back an allowed my kids on my friend list)...  but even so... so what?

Accept its shortfalls and its fine.
