As from today, it is possible for web addresses to use non-Latin letters such as Arabic or Chinese, per this BBC news item.

So next time you see strange lettering in web addresses, this is what is about.
In the same way as we are used to com and co.uk, we can expect to see unfamiliar looking text. The first countries are these:

Egypt: مصر
Saudi Arabia: السعودية
United Arab Emirates: امارات

The very first complete website address is for the Egyptian Ministry of Communications.
This is it وزارة الإتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات
But don't expect to understand it!

This is very dangerous. There will now be an influx of cloned websites with very slightly different domain names, eg. ğoogle.com instead of google.com, where the average unwitting user will click the fraudulant link and be tricked into downloading viruses and so on. Also think about how this will be used to clone online banking websites. It's a disaster waiting to happen...
