Tha bad decision which springs to mind is this.

About 30 years ago I was in this science fiction bookshop. The oweners told me about this local writer who had just published his first book and they were doing their bit to promote him. So although I had never heard of the writer I bought the book.

After I read it, I gave it away as I hadn't enjoyed it.

The book was The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett. I would guess that although it was the paperback version, even so it would be worth something
