As long as tins aren't damaged externally or internally they should last for ages. I often find a gem in our pantry. Some from shops that don't exist anymore.

I see no risk in using tins which are just a month out of date apart from where they contain meat, poultry or fish - there you do need to be cautious. Even then tins of corned beef have been known to be safe to eat years later (but that's not meant to be taken as advice!)

The only time I wouldn't trust a tin is if it had started to swell, or looked at all dented or rusty. Glad you survived!

I don't eat anything that's out of date - I throw out a hell of a lot of stuff
