No idea what a mugwump is, but it made me laugh.
It's one of those words which sound funny, but comes from the States in the 1830s. It literally means an important person, but came to mean someone in politics who switched sides. It has become popular in recent times due to the Harry Potter books where Albus Dumbledore is described as 'Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards'.
