A lad at work is really annoying, to the point that I try to ignore all conversation with him which is very difficult considering he sit's next to me. I just have nothiong in common with him, and I know a lot of people at work feel then same way about him, he is just weird and acts strange (it's hard to explain), any way apparently the MD has given him one week's notice to try harder at work and get some decent sales results in or he is out of the door, in a way I hope he fails but I know that's a really bad thought considering I was just out of work myself.

As long as you don't do anything to get him sacked, I don;t see that you should feel that you are wrong. The fact that the boss has threatedned him with the sack shows that the lad's attitude to work has been noticed and he has been given one week;s notice, Put up with the lad for the rest of the week knowing that he is either out of the door by the weekend or he has changed his attitude.

It seems to be that as he is in sales, his attitude is irritating his potential customers resulting in a lack of sales.

I don't want him to get the sack coz that would just be down right mean, I just wish he didn't act so weird, he seems to mutter to himself a lot, and when he is talking to customers he just gabs on about stuff that is totally irrelevant to getting the sale, then he wonders why he is always in the office having more training. Some of us in the office reckon he suffers from some sort of attention defecit disorder.

There is no defined sales technique. You tailor your pitch to whoever you are speaking to.

Anyway, I asked you a few days ago re the product you are selling....what is your target market and what is your route to market? Interested to know

Karma, we have an association with 2 companies that send brochures and magazines out to the public (mainly he eldery), advertising herbal natural remedies for curing illneses, people respomd to the offers and try the stuff, then they send us theircustomer list about 4 months later, we ring them up to see if they want to buy anymore.

So your company has an affiliation with these companies whereby their data capture is then used by yourselves to renew the sale a few months on.....I was interested as the role (as you described it) seemed to be more of a business development role as opposed to account management.

Isn't the audience for this limited then? It seems you can only sell to those who have already purchased said product(s), is there scope for new business?

I think I would be asking different questions to 'am I wrong to feel like this'.

You've only just started working for this company and don't know too much about them. I'd be wanting to find out the history behind this situation. Has this person been spoken to in the past? Has it gone through proper procedures (and what are they?). Have they received ongoing training and support?

I don't think that anyone is going to be able to work to their full potential with the threat of losing their job within a week if they don't hanging over them. Is this the company's normal management style?

If it is ... I'd be looking for another job pdq
