Danny Mills launches Wheelchair Challenge

This is a copy of ASBAH's announcement re their recent Marmite auction. As I have known people who have suffered from either Spina Bifida or Hydrocephalus I have supported this charity for many years.

MARMITE’S MOOMITE AUCTION MAKES

THOUSANDS FOR ASBAH

Marmite recently auctioned a piece of exclusive art, by popular artist Caroline Shotton, who is well known for her iconic whimsical images of cows. The painting was auctioned on eBay, to help raise funds for Marmite’s preferred charity, the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH).

Following several days of tactile bidding by eBayers, the final and successful bid reached £2,969.00, which has now been passed to ASBAH, helping maintain their unique work and support, to children, families and individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.

The exclusive and original painting (see attached) is entitled ‘Moomite’ and features quirky cows on the iconic Marmite jar label, but in a comical take on Salvador Dali’s famous surrealistic piece, ‘The Persistence of Memory’.

Commenting, Jackie Bland, Chief Executive of the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus said:

“The relationship we have with Marmite is excellent. They are very proactive and thoughtful as to how they can work to benefit ASBAH and ensure that the essential services we provide are maintained.

“In just a matter of months, Marmite has helped raise thousands of pounds for ASBAH, since we became their preferred charity. I would like to say a big thank you to all those people at Marmite who helped in the latest fundraising exercise and look forward to continuing our relationship with this iconic brand.”

Worth Noting:

Spina bifida occurs very early in pregnancy when the spine and brain are being formed. It is a fault in the development of the spine, which fails to close properly. Spina Bifida often results in paralysis below the fault resulting in severe disability.

A major secondary complication of spina bifida is hydrocephalus – excess fluid pressure in the brain, which can cause brain damage if not treated promptly. Hydrocephalus can also occur at any time of life, for other reasons, including meningitis, premature birth, stroke or tumours. More information at www.asbah.org
