Not really followed it all much, but they are probably my favourite airline... never had any problems with them before.

But,

The average pay for BA cabin crew is ÂĢ29,900, according to the UK Civil Aviation Authority. This compares with an average of ÂĢ20,200 at easyJet and ÂĢ14,400 at Virgin Atlantic Airlines. At XL Airways UK crew receive an average of ÂĢ6,900.

So what is the problem? Their already on a hefty pay.

They did a bit about this in The Grauniad. I wouldn't know because I never fly on ecological grounds :smug: however it suggested that BA cabin crew provide a better service than others.

I disagree - I was an Air Stewardess for a different Airline and we always looked very smart and well made up (not glammed to with an inch of our lives) and polite JUST like BA cabin crew. The only difference was BA 'thought' they flew in a different sky to everyone else and because the were employed by the 'leading' airline they were so above all of us.

Our airline was small by comparison but we gave just as much to our passengers and after a test back in 1989/1990 (God I feel old) between BA and our airline we got better marks for safety procedures which is predominately what cabin crew are there for. Not for flouncing about the cabin all fake tanned and glammed up with snotty looks on their faces... I've had my fair share of run ins with BA staff. I may add they're not all like that as there are always some goodun's in a bad bunch.

I think the striking by BA is dreadful They are never bloody happy. And I'm saying this even though I have two very good friends who are BA cabin crew... They know my feelings **shakes fist in their direction**

Just as an aside - I got 200 passengers off a plane down the slide in a real emergency landing in record time (go me ) - I didn't have to lie down afterwards like some crew did I went out an hour later on another flight on a different plane with different passengers because that was what I was paid to do!

I don't think I've ever flown BA. I've been on a couple of long-haul flights, one with Lufthansa and the other was United Airlines. Both were great.
Favourite, though, was El Al to Israel. Once you get past the incredibly tough security checks, they're lovely to fly with.

I actually always have a good experience with Ryan air, Have never been delayed once and flew with them about 7 times in the last year. Easy Jet on the other hand I was once delayed in Belfast for 9 hours!! Absolute disgrace and all we got was a ÂĢ2 voucher for coffee.

On the flip side of the whole BA strike, I think they are doing themselves an injustice, the strike has absolutely no consideration for their passengers who may be going to somewhere important, e.g. maybe a wedding, holiday or something, have to rebook with another airline costing hundreds as it's short notice booking. If I were those people I'd NEVER fly with BA again, and I'm sure many of them won't. This ultimately means that BA will had less people booking with them, and the cabin crew will have less client= less jobs.

Also if what you say about them getting ÂĢ29l per annum, and they are complaining about this then its a bliddy disgrace. There are many nurses, midwives and the like out there doing crappy hours with even crappier pay, and they aren't going on strike.

I love flying with BA, I think the main difference being you are treated and greeted as an individual and not as part of a herd of cattle. They always look groomed and immaculate, and while ok that maybe not the most important part of the whole thing, it certainly helps with the overall experience.
Easyjet? Ok to fly with if all you worry about is getting to your destination - although be prepared to have to walk to, and land in the furthest gate from the terminal, have to endure being crammed together like sardines while you wait to board, observe their staff chewing gum (with their mouths open), laughing and joking with each other while they issue the emergency tutorial before take off (I had one that was actually texting in between telling us what to do if we land in the sea), and while the cabin crew wheel their trolley up and down the aisle, have to endure who shagged who the previous night and how many vodka and red bulls they managed to sink.

Ok to fly with if all you worry about is getting to your destination -
thats me, I have very low expectations from air travel... as long as the plane doesn't crash, I'm pretty happy

Though I agree with RR about them doing themselves a disservice, I've already heard about 5 people saying they wont fly BA again, and I might not either... there always seems to be some problem

I don't want to be met and greeted in any particular way, I just want to get on the plane, have a bite to eat and get to my destination. BA has always charged too much for that so I am behind the cabin crew 100%.
Maybe BA charge more for their services/tickets because their costs (staff salaries) are higher.

I read somewhere that BA staff get extra money when one of the team ring in sick. When a fellow shift worker of mine rings in sick I don't get extra money for having to work that little bit harder throughout the night.
