We found this site useful when my son kept getting dodgy texts (such as "thanks for your text, I'll come over later, love Kay).... and this site had posts by hundreds of people who had had the same text message...  it was from some dodgy sexchat company... trying to get people to text back enquiring about the mysterious message!

(my poor son had been getting amorous texts from unknown grown up ladies for a couple of weeks and had been totally freaked out about it....  I think he thought that he was gonna get jumped by a gang of beautiful but scary busty blondes ... all strangely attracted to his new lynx body spray he got for christmas! )

Do you have an iphone by any chance? If so i think there is an app that lets messages appear on screen when they come through with out having to press a button to pen them. As for there being no number i would say it was advertising spam, but then again there wasnt anything being advertised in the text

Although I have a caller display ;and phone, sometimes I get a phone call where nothing is shown. This can happpen from calls from people I know whose number normally is shown. I just put it down to the system not being fool-proof.

Of course I also get the Withheld numbers which can signify either those whoi have deliberately withheld the number such as scammers, hoaxers & junk, or those who are ex-directory. I can also get International which either means the callers is ringing from abroad (Typically "Congratulations, you have won a free holiday .....") or someone who is using Skype (as Skype is based in Luxemburg).
