I can, I think it was me anyway...
Click the 'Start' menu & Go into 'accessories'....then go to 'system tools'..then to 'system restore'...a calendar should pop up with some previous dates in bold type....pick a date when your PC was running right and click it...

...it may take a few minutes and will shut your PC down and restart it....
It will remove any programmes you may have added since the date you pick but will not remove documents...good luck Soozy

Bump for Soozy
thanks for that devil, i'm going to try that on my old lappy tomorrow, it's lost internet connection
Hope it works for you both,
i haven't tried yet, i'm abit scared i'll cause more damage
System restore is perfectly safe aimee it won't wipe your comp, but you have to keep your passwords noted etc and you lose your automatic log ins etc. For example if you have this site 's log in and password, you will have to re-enter them(log in again)(not re-join etc!) I keep all my stuff in a notebook.
i can't find accessories i knew this was a bad idea to start fiddling
sorry didn't see your post there, it may be safe but i'm having trouble finding system restore
panic over, i've found it, buts it's asking for daughters password, going to have to wait for her to get home
Does anyone know if this will reconnect my internet?
Have you done everything I said Aimee...it should be there somewhere....I wish I could come and help
Does anyone know if this will reconnect my internet?
I don't see why not as I can only assume that you have added or removed a programme that has caused your internet connection to disappear? It's worth a try anyway, I've done it loads of times at work as I lost my internet when I let the fella upstairs run his off my connection for a few days, it cam back...it won't do your PC any harm and as I say, it's worth a bash
You may have to maybe set up your connection again though if it works, but better than not being able to at all
When I did mine at home I restored my system back to a much earlier date and re-installed my broadband from scratch...

Thanks devil, i'm just waiting for my daughter to text me her password the laptop was working fine and then all of a sudden it lost connection with the modem, phoned someone up out of the paper and they want ÂĢ50 to repair it so i want to try and fix it myself first, we've got a new laptop but it's one of those really small ones and doesn't have a disk drive, which we need to set the router up and it seems daft to let the laptop just sit there
Once it's up and running again (fingers crossed), you should be able to create a restore point incase it happens again...as katty said, it will remove all you passwords etc, programes installed after the date you chose, but not documents....good luck, let us know how you get on
thanks for all your help, will let you know if we fix it
well the system restore didn't work, the dates that where showing where after when the laptop lost internet connection tried doing it from the last date showing but that didn't work, looks like i'm going to have to take it somewhere
Do you not know anyone who can take a little look at it for you Aimee? i hate the idea of you having to take it to s shop and pay them stupid money for fiddle with it.
don't really know anyone that knows much about computers
How about your daughter? Does she know anyone? a mate or a mates parents even. maybe an IT teacher at school/collage (they probably wont but worth a try to save you some pennies)
Aimee, how long have you had the Laptop? DO you still have the handbook that came with it....on one occassion I had to reset mine back to the Manufacturers settings, this basically set the Lappy back to how it was the day it was bought...removed everything I had added since but sorted the problem out....I had to keep pressing F11 or something and then it completely reset....
...have a look on the net to see if there's anything like that (if you can't find the handbook)
What make & model is it? I shall mention it to my Friend Imran upstairs (if he's in this week, not seen him) and see if he can recommend anything, may not be Today though BUT, he is brilliant...he may know of a quick solution....worth a try

I Have spoken to Imran and he said if you have no luck, he'll have a look, may just be a case of a few clicks of a button, you just have to know which ones, lol...
