They think, as long as the USA is their bestest buddy, that they don't have to worry what anyone else thinks.

Anyone see Netanyahu's speech very late last night on the BBC news channel? The OH and I thought 'Wow, he's being reasonable, but about 10 mins in, he started slagging the West and the UN off, for their misguided (quote) adherence to human rights...and it went downhill from there

Don't start me on the Israeli government....TBH  imo if the US goverment stopped supporting the Isralies policy in the middle east it may just resolve a lot of the conflict.

It's a complex one. I think that the people who really decide what happens still regard the world as being made up of superpowers. Although there seems to be a Crisis of Hegemony at the very top due to the Russians, they still like the idea of regional superpowers, for example India v Pakistan. Apparently the potential conflict keeps order. In the case of Israel and Iran the "west" have to appear to be anoyed with Israel but the Israelis will remain a proxy state. We can't really afford to split from Israel, no mattter what we think of them, they are merely Division three loonies compared to the Iranians.

And that's the truth. It's all a question of degrees of looniness, when it comes to picking your international 'friends', isn't it?

Saddam Hussein was a good mate of ours during the Iran-Iraq war, after all. And we loved those brave Taliban when they were repelling the Russians from Afghanistan.
