I used to be a huge fan of Rab C Nesbitt. The first couple of series were extremely well written. It wasn't really a sitcom - each of the episodes was essentially a satire on a particular Scottish (and sometimes specifically Glaswegian) hangup - religion, politics, alcohol, culture of violence, etc.
There was also a nice little in-joke for most Scots because it was pretty obvious that the BBC chiefs didn't understand any of it. I mean, there's no way they would have put it on at peak time if the London-based management actually knew what Scots words like "keech" meant...


It really isn't anything like as funny as it used to be though. Personally, I think they should have just quietly let it lie after Eric Cullen (Wee Burney) died...

The early shows were funny,now it's rubbish.

Eric Cullen "wee Burney" was  a suspected  peadophile,he was  up on charages etc,but killed himself....before it came to trial..

He was cleared in court of any actual involvement in child abuse, and he always claimed that he was blackmailed to keep the pornography by the men who abused him. Much of his remaining life was spent trying to get his abusers brought to justice (2 of the 3 men were eventually convicted).


Cullen died in hospital in 1996 from a heart attack, shortly after undergoing bowel surgery.

If you liked the earlier rab c, you could try doing a youtube search for the comedy show absolutely, where a young gregor fisher is hilarious in the many sketches he features in..

Have never watched it, but my vote for worst comedy on the telebox is Shameless- although my OH would stongly disagree
